We're always excited when we get to work with a new artist at the coffee shop. Today we're introducing the work of photographer Justice Smithers: "String Figures."
Justice Smithers is an Oklahoma born and raised photographer, traditionally trained in darkroom techniques. Almost exclusively shooting portraits, he likes to tell stories with the human form, all while using a minimal approach and aesthetic.
"String Figures" explores the idea of positive and negative things that we carry with us from our childhood into our adult lives, inspired by string games he would play as a child. He felt that these simple games and figures were a good physical representation of childhood experiences, memories, and issues that we can all carry into adulthood.
